Road bike - city-country-river

After a leisurely start, the first climb up to Kallenhardt awaits, past the limestone quarry. Via Warstein, the site of the famous brewery of the same name, we reach Hirschberg and its historic town center after a long climb.

After a long descent, we leave the district of Soest in the direction of Arnsberg. We cross the Ruhr several times here. We cross the Arnsberg forest on a steady climb to the Möhnesee. There the route is absolutely flat, first along the southern shore and then along the western shore to Günne. Here, the Haarstrang, which separates the Sauerland from the Soest Börde, gets in the way. A long and even descent awaits us with a wide view over the Börde as far as Soest.

We leave Soest in a north-westerly direction towards Bad Sassendorf, a well-known spa town, and ride parallel to the Bundesstraße 1, which also follows the Hellweg, a historic trade route. There are only a few meters of elevation gain over the next few kilometers. After crossing the A44, the tour climbs gently but steadily to Rüthen, the starting point.
